What Diamonds Are For In Zelda: TOTK (& Can You Safely Sell Them?)

Diamonds are an exceptionally rare find in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and players should strive to use them as efficiently as possible.

In the gaming world, diamonds oftentimes represent the absolute jackpot of loot - and the same sentiment applies to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, wherein Link will come across a few rare Diamonds that he may be tempted to sell. Those who have played Breath of the Wild previously will recall that they were the most valuable ores in the entire game, but also that it was good to keep a small stock of them handy for upgrades. As such, BOTW veterans and newcomers alike may be wondering what Diamonds are used for in TOTK, and whether it's safe to immediately sell them to merchants.

With how difficult it is to find Diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom, it's no surprise that they can be exchanged for such a large profit. A number of them can be found in chests or as a reward for completing Shrines, but apart from these limited instances, the only other ways to get Diamonds is by mining ore veins, fighting Talus, or feeding Dondons with Luminous Stones. In each case, the drop rate for the precious gemstones is dreadfully low. It may take players hours or even days to obtain a single Diamond, and so it's important that they make the most of each one.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make good use of Diamonds in TOTK. As always, it's possible to sell them to the many vendors scattered around Hyrule. Since they're the only gemstones not affected by worse sale prices in Tears of the Kingdom, Diamonds can still be exchanged for a whopping 500 Rupees. They can also be used to upgrade certain weapons or armor sets, and thanks to Link's new Fuse ability, he can now also attach Diamonds to weapons and arrows. Doing so will increase the attack damage of the armament by an outstanding 25 points.

The best place to sell Diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom is to Ramella in Goron City, who will buy 10 of them for 5,500 Rupees. However, she may not always be willing to purchase Diamonds. It's best to check in with Ramella periodically to see what ore she's looking to buy in bulk.

It can certainly be tempting to sell them for a few hundred Rupees, but it's ultimately best to hold onto a few Diamonds in Tears of the Kingdom. The gems are required to obtain powerful Champion weapons from each region, and they're also needed to upgrade the luminescent Miner's Armor Set in Tears of the Kingdom, which is a life-changer when traversing the pitch-black Depths below Hyrule.

Both the Legendary Champion weapons and the Miner's Armor Set prove to be far more useful in the long run than some extra money, and their value is reflected in their price. For instance, the Scimitar of the Seven Sword and the Daybreaker Shield from the Gerudo region will cost four Diamonds (among other resources) to make - and each of the other Champion weapons require a similar output of the precious ores. While there are plenty of ways to earn Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom, players will simply be out of luck or at the mercy of RNG if they're a Diamond or two short.

As such, it's in Link's best interest to hang onto a few Diamonds in TOTK before selling them to merchants. Of course, if players decide that they don't want items like the Miner's Armor Set or the Champion weapons, they should feel free to exchange them for Rupees, or to Fuse them to weapons for some extra damage. But for those looking to get as powerful as possible in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the best use for Diamonds is for making Champion weapons or upgrading armor.
